I think the main takeaway from the last few years of shooting portraits is being completely honest, with myself and the person in front of the camera. It is moments of true collaboration, creating an emotional space where the person feels unjudged and seen. I allow the space between to be filled with whatever the person brings that day. Have a plan but no expectations, to let whatever happens be enough. I don't believe in posing people. If I were to pose someone, it limits them and only contains them.
Every person moves in their own way; so I just talk with them,  to know someone honestly for the time they have in front of my camera. I want to know what drives them, what their fears are, who they strive to be for those closest to them. I ask and then just listen with every part of myself, and during these moments we make a few pictures.
